The Beatles have so many memorable songs in their collection, but it seems that Yesterday might be the most popular of them all. That’s because the track, which was penned by Lennon and McCartney, has been covered more than 1,600 times. All manner of performers have produced their own version of the song, including icons like Frank Sinatra and Boyz II Men. As a result, the song now has a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Longest gap between UK number one
In recent years, some of The Beatles’ classic albums have been reissued to celebrate certain notable anniversaries. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band received this treatment a few years ago, and it’s success earned it a Guinness World Record. When it topped the UK charts, it became the album with the longest gap between stints at number one. It had been a whopping 49 years and 125 days since it had last been at the top.
Most US number one albums
The Beatles might have only been making music together for about a decade, but that didn’t stop them from taking over the world. Throughout their run, 14 of their albums went in at number one in the US, an incredible achievement for any artist. Add to that the five they achieved with compilation albums released after their split, and the group has a whopping 19 number ones. That’s more than anyone else in the US by a long shot.

It’s not just albums that have sold well for The Beatles in the US. Their singles have been just as popular, with 20 of them going to number one between the ‘60s and ‘70s. Among these are Love Me Do, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Can’t Buy Me Love, and A Hard Day’s Night. The group faces stiff competition from artists like Mariah Carey and Rihanna, but as it stands, they still hold the world record.
There’s no doubt that The Beatles is one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen. They might not have been around for the longest time, but they definitely made the most of their few years together. We’ll probably never seen another act quite like them again, but that’s okay. After all, that just means that the group’s world records will remain intact for many years to come.
