She recalled one particularly crafty passenger who held his stomach and complained excessively about a sore back pain, and requesting a first class bed to lie in. She told him that she was afraid there wasn’t anywhere for him to lie down – and that’s when he asked for a first class upgrade.
She responded, “I have zero authority to upgrade you.” She said that perhaps the manager might be able to do it, but that she had never actually seen him upgrade anyone, so she wasn’t going to ask him.”
