Let’s be honest; there are millions of books in this world. There are long ones, there are short ones, there are non-fiction ones, and there are fiction ones. It seems as though a new book is being released every single day, and many of them unfortunately slip through the net. However, there are others that stand out from the crowd and instantly become best-sellers. As the years go by, the popularity doesn’t wane, and they soon become known as classic books. Because of this, you know they’re something special. These are the classic books that everyone should read at least once.

The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzegerald

F. Scott Fitzgerald will forever be remembered as one of the most iconic authors throughout history, but there’s no doubt about the fact that one of his books stands out more than most. While you may have seen the movie version of this book starring Leonardo Di Caprio, there’s nothing quite like sinking your teeth into the page of the original version. Through this book, you can check out what life was like when Gatbsy was throwing the best parties of the Jazz Age.

1984 – George Orwell

Despite the fact that George Orwell wrote this book back in 1948, something about it still resonates with people today. This dystopian classic has made its mark on the world across generations, and it seems as though more and more people seem to be reading about the life of Winston Smith as he tries to survive the oppressive world he lives in. It can be a tough read, but it’s one that will make you think, and it’s one that will make you truly understand what you want from life.

The Diary of a Young Girl – Anne Frank

Although it’s hard and emotionally draining to to remember that this diary is not a work of fiction, Anne Frank’s raw and honest account of what life was like for her and her family during the war is one that will forever go down in history. Despite the fact that the 12-year-old didn’t make it out of the camp before they were freed, Anne’s words and her life will forever be immortalized within her diary. This is a book that will make you truly appreciate the freedom and the luxuries that you have in life, while realizing that you’re completely in awe of a girl who wasn’t even a teenager at the time.

Lord of the Flies – William Golding

What would you do if you were washed up on an island and had to govern your own mini society? Well, that’s exactly what William Golding gets you to think about in Lord of the Flies. Featuring some of the most iconic characters within literary history, this novel follows the lives of a group of young boys who have to fight for survival. While they originally thought that their time on the island would be all fun and games, they soon realized that their freedom and their plans to stay alive was what was causing them problems in the first place.
