How to feel closer to your long-distance friend when you miss her

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, but it’s really hard when your bestie lives miles away, and you can’t see each other as much as you might like. Perhaps her family moved, or you went away to college. Either way, it can be really hard to have a long-distance friend, so here are some ideas of how to feel closer, when you miss her.

Send a soppy message

It’s always nice to know that someone is thinking about and missing you, so let your girl know. Text her a sappy, sentimental message, letting her know how much you love her and how amazing she is. We’re sure she will be so happy to hear from you, and it will make the distance feel slightly less.

Tell someone about her

Whether you choose a funny story of a time you shared, or a sweet memory about something kind she did for you, find another friend and tell them about it. Communication is key, and this is a great way to get your feelings out without resorting to feeling down. You’ll feel more connected to her and remember fun times.

Print out photographs

Chances are you will have a whole load of pictures from years gone by of you and your bestie. Now’s the time to get them off your phone and social media and into real life frames. Get prints ordered and maybe even send some to her too. You could make a scrapbook or just tack them up to your walls – either way, it’s a lovely way to reminisce and remember some of your best memories.

Wear something cute

You’re never too old for friendship bracelets. You could go retro and make each other a cute camp-style friendship bracelet, or check out the more grown up, dainty chain ones that you can buy on Etsy or on the high street. It doesn’t have to be anything too blingy, just a sweet little way to feel as though you are with each other.

Send them post

Is there anything better than an exciting surprise package?! Send your best friend a completely random care package with her favorite treats in it, complete with a handwritten card. Celebrate Galentine’s Day long-distance by sending her some gifts, and randomly send her a postcard from anywhere you visit.

Do something that she would do

Often times the best thing about a good friend is that they will push you out of your comfort zone. Without your sidekick, you might find yourself getting a little lazy or complacent. Challenge yourself to do something that you would do with her, whether that is sending a risky text to your crush, or joining an improv class. Do it, and then tell her about it – she will be so proud!

Go visit her!

Sometimes the only way to get over missing someone is to go and see them. Take a weekend trip to see your bestie and enjoy her new city. Spend some time together and close the gap between you both just for a few days. Missing each other will be tough even more when you leave, but it will be good to get your fix.

Having a long-distance friend can be difficult, but it’s also a blessing. With the internet making distance feel closer, it doesn’t have to feel like the end of the world.
