5 little known facts about Rolex watch

There are some items that make us think of the finer life. Rolex watches are one of them. While many of us have heard of the iconic company before, these five little known facts about Rolex watches show there’s a lot more to them than meets the eye.

They are all handmade

One of the most impressive things about Rolex watches is the fact that every single one that leaves the factory has been handmade. This means that every aspect of the watch has been lovingly prepared by someone with tools rather than a machine. This is because the company wants to make sure that every single item of theirs meets the same high standards with no manufacturing mistakes. Once all of the parts have been made, they are carefully put together before they are quality tested and sent on their way.

They are pressure tested

Although every watch is handmade, it seems as though that is just the beginning of their journey. The company wants to make sure that nothing short of perfect makes its way out of their doors and to their eager customers. This means that each Rolex watch is placed into an air-pressure chamber. Why? These watches are known to be water-resistant. A machine in the chamber detects if water has got into the watch and therefore reveals any cracks or leaks.

They can be expensive

Of course, Rolex watches are known for their high price tags. Thankfully, there are so many models on the market that it seems as though we can spend almost as much as we want on the brand. However, the most expensive Rolex watch fetched a lot more than many of us could ever imagine. That’s right; it sold for $17.75 million. The watch in question was the 1968 Reference 6239 Daytona. It’s grown to become one of the most iconic Rolex models, with the leather and stainless steel piece reaching the high price in 2017.

No one knows what it means

Many people have come up with their own theories on the origin of the company name over the years, but it seems as though we may never know the truth. Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, admits that he actually chose the name from nowhere. Hans felt as though the word would look good on the face of a watch as well as sounding like the noise of a watch being wound up. The best bit? Rolex is also pronounced the same in every language.

They’ve gone deep

James Cameron was about to go where not many have been before as he headed off for the Mariana Trench back in 2012. However, he had one thing on his arm: the Rolex Deepsea Challenge. This watch claimed that it would remain waterproof up to 39,370 feet, and James wanted to put this to the test. Believe it or not, but the watch actually kept the perfect time for the entire seven hours that the divers were under the water. It seems as though it really does live up to its name.

Rolex watches are something that many of us dream about, but not all of us ever get to experience. It turns out there is a lot more to the company than just being a huge name in watch-making. Yes, the little known facts about Rolex watch prove the incredible story that comes with each piece.
