What makes a teacher great? We would argue the best ones are not just smart and knowledgable, but also goofy enough to make their classes truly fun. This list is the perfect proof.
Intro to immunology
One of the most important skills when it comes to teaching, is knowing how to make learning fun. And humor is naturally one of the best tools to use. This teacher has clearly figured that out.
So how does he choose to start a lecture about immunology and vaccines? By making a reference to a TV show he knows his young students are watching. If he didn’t have their attention before, he sure got it now!
Get your priorities straight, kids
This professor is truly passionate about the first man in space, but seems to doubt his students have their priorities straight about the kind of people who’s names they find important enough to remember. So he gave them some quite harsh, but funny, food for thought.
Most of them can probably name all five Kardashians (and their kids) but hopefully thanks to this funny teacher, they will now also forever know the name of the first man in space.
Coolest math teacher ever
Math has for decades been known as a quite geeky subject. Every kids wants to excel in sports, or in arts. But few think it’s cool to be really good at math. This teacher is here to change that.
Not only does he own a pretty nice car. He has gotten a custom made license plate that lets the world know he is all about that cool, algebra lifestyle. So much so, he goes by the nickname Algebro.
Welcome to organic chemistry
We mostly remember chemistry as the class when you tried not to fall asleep while learning about the periodic table or particle theory. Basically, it was always a snooze fest. But now it seems evident, we just didn’t have the right kind of chemistry teacher.
This one is clearly up for a few laughs and we bet they also do those cool chemistry experiments that make you feel like you’re at Hogwarts rather than your boring, small town high school.
A scary meeting
This teacher had good reasons for putting up this sign. He put it there in preparation for a meeting with a student who had emailed to set up an appointment to discuss his grades. As responsible as that sounds, the student in question had missed over 30 classes during the semester…
If he had hoped his teacher would be easily convinced to let him pass despite his absence, once he walked in and saw this – he probably realized he had been very wrong.
Act your age (sort of)
This sign was spotted in the window of a biology professor’s office at an unnamed community college. We have a feeling his patience with his students is running very, very thin.
Sure, people in college are legally adults and considering they’ve been accepted to a college, they are expected to act with a certain level of intelligence and sophistication. But this professor clearly feels they are not behaving like they should, despite millions of years of evolution.
A serious warning
Movie spoilers is no joking matter. Especially not when it comes to people who are truly passionate about the Marvel universe. Such as this high school teacher. He is making it very clear, there will be severe consequences for anyone not respecting the holy sanctity that is the Avengers franchise.
He had not had a chance yet to watch Avengers: Endgame and he will do whatever it takes to ensure no spoilers reach his ears before getting a chance to experience this cinematic masterpiece.
An annoying part of being a teacher, is hearing the same, predictable questions over and over again, at the beginning of every new semester. Especially when you’ve taken the time to carefully put together a syllabus with all relevant information about the course.
This professor got so frustrated by these questions, he went ahead and put this T-shirt under his buttoned down shirt. So every time a student asks something that is clearly written in the syllabus, he can make this dramatic move.
Comedic teacher duo
What’s better than having one funny teacher at your school? Having two, of course! These colleagues are clearly the best of buddies, and have created a fun little tradition all students look forward to every year. When having their picture taken for the yearbook, they will stage silly poses that make their individual photos connected.
Sure, they’re not perfectly lined up, but it’s still hilarious. And it’s the thought that counts after all. These two sure help make the yearbook a little more unique.
Motivating the kids
How do you motivate teenagers to take school seriously and study for their tests? You give them incentive, of course. This one told his class if they reached an 80% class average on their first exam – he would dress up as Batman for an entire day. Who wouldn’t want to see that?
That was all the motivation his students needed, and they reached his set goal. We hope he realizes he will now have to think of something ever better to get them to study for finals…
No empty threats
There are many ways as a teacher to achieve respect in the classroom, but some amount of authoritative behavior and boundary setting is usually needed. This teacher found a funny way to make it clear to his students he means business.
He confiscated a student’s phone twenty years ago, and nailed it to the wall. Why? Because the student had been using it during class, something that is clearly against classroom rules. The phone is still there, as an efficient warning to new students.
Halloween tends to bring out everyone’s inner child, and as it turns out – that goes even for serious college professors. This particular one goes all out every year, and dresses up as Papa Smurf.
Besides the similarity being uncanny, we just love his serious facial expression. He looks like this is just another day on the job as a Papa Smurf professor. His students, however, are probably struggling to not start laughing every time they look at him.
A wild physics class
We’re not sure the school administration (or their insurance company) approves of this unusual teaching method but hey – whatever it takes to get the kids excited about physics!
This cool teacher is demonstrating Newton’s third law of motion by using a skateboard and a fire extinguisher. And hopefully he didn’t hit any walls, students or damage any valuable school property in the process. Regardless of the risks involved with this little demonstration, you got to admire his passion for teaching!
It’s all in the details
We’ve all had those teachers who clearly plan their classes ten minutes before they start. This professor is not one of them. He has planned the class out so meticulously, his sharp outfit even matches his powerpoint…
That’s right, this dedicated professor told his class he spent two extra hours on his powerpoint presentation just to make it match his tie. Going the extra mile like that is truly what makes the difference between an average teacher, and the kind you will always remember with a smile.
Is this a regular high school chemistry class, or is this actually Hogwarts? We’re tempted to believe the latter. Where was this cool lady when we studied (aka slept through) chemistry at our school?
It seems like this picture was snapped right as the teacher was demonstrating how to cast a Patronus, which is the only way to ward off those terrifying Dementors. This picture could of course also just be of some cool science experiment, but our theory is more fun.
And that’s called clever discipline
Many teachers today struggle with discipline in the classroom, but that is still nothing compared to the poor substitute teachers. This one, however, has found a clever way to immediately assert himself as the authority figure, and gain the students’ respect. And he didn’t even have to raise his voice to do it.
The trick to disciplining students is knowing what they care about, what will push their buttons. And clearly Endgame spoilers is one such thing. Well played, substitute teacher.
First of all, what cool kind of high school has “Meme Day”? Well, this one does. Talk about a school which knows how to make kids pay attention and actively participate. And it’s definitely a smart way to get them to practice debate.
We have a feeling the line to discuss this silly but also weirdly intriguing topic was pretty long. We also have a feeling this teacher is pretty hard to beat in a debate about pretty much anything.
Inner child intact
This school just got a ton of new iMacs, and these two teachers decided to have a little fun with the leftover boxes. The kids in this school are clearly very lucky: they have brand new iMacs in their computer lab, and some really creative teachers. Where do we sign up for next semester?
That wheel of boxes even looks pretty stable, so we bet both teachers and students at this school wanted their turn to try it out during lunch break.
A lesson in magic
There seems to be more than one chemistry teacher on this list who has realized chemistry is as close as we can get to magic, and highlighting that connection is a great way to make the students think chemistry is pretty cool after all. Because who doesn’t think magic is cool?
Every time this professor conducts an experiment, he sets the atmosphere in the classroom by putting on his magician hat and cape – a sure way to get all eyes on him in anticipation for the trick.
You know how some professors say “my door is always open”, but when you pop by their office for a chat about your test results – they’re never there? This professor found a great solution to make it seem like he’s diligently working away at his desk 24/7. Do you see it yet?
It took us a quite a few seconds, and most likely more than one student has called the professor’s name before realizing they have been tricked.
Shakespeare insult kit
Reading Shakespeare in English class is something many students dread. Sure, everyone loves the romantic plot of Romeo and Juliet, but actually reading the play is like deciphering a foreign language. But this teacher figured out the perfect way to get his students excited about Shakespearean English.
He put together a Shakespearean insult kit for them to practice with. Encouraging students to curse during class is a sure way to become the most popular teacher in school!
You got to love a good economics joke. This economics teacher has a really great one printed in his T-shirt. But he was probably quite annoyed by the students who asked him why his shirt was missing the second part…
Ok, we admit – we had to think for a few seconds before we got it too. This teacher’s students are lucky to have a teacher who is so passionate about his job, he goes above and beyond to make such a boring subject funny.
The homemade pointer
This chemistry professor has stated he “doesn’t believe in laser pointers” (whatever that means..), so instead he uses a homemade alternative: a fishing pole with a foam finger attached to it.
His students can’t help but start giggling when he uses it with a complete straight face while explaining, for example, resonance stabilization formulas. Well, that’s definitely one way to make this snooze fest of a class a little more exiting for the students!
This teacher assistant had not taken attendance all quarter, and was out of town on final exam day. So the teacher cleverly included this, as the last question of the exam.
Knowing college students and how much they can struggle with showing up to class, we have a feeling more than one panicked a little at the sight of these pictures. On this exam day, it became evident who had actually attended class every week, and paid attention, and who hadn’t.
A simple way to not lose kids
Remember those fire drills back in high school? Each class was supposed to follow their teacher and gather at a set location, to practice how to keep the order during an actual fire evacuation. But it wasn’t always easy to keep track of your teacher in the crowd.
This teacher thought of the perfect way to ensure none of his students got lost. Rather than just holding something random in the air, he printed a massive picture of his own smiling face. Impossible to miss!
Kittens and poetry
You can’t bring pets to school, everyone knows that. Well, this is clearly the class to attend if you think our four-legged best friends would make school a thousand times better.
This professor heard one of his students got a new kitten, and asked her to bring him to class. Talk about best professor in the world! And no, this is not a vet class – it’s English lit. Studying poetry while cuddling with a kitten – we honestly can’t think of a better way to spend the day.
Joke of the day
There is nothing better than jokester teachers. Case in point – this teacher welcomes his students to class every morning with a new hand drawn meme or joke on the whiteboard. That’s a pretty good way to start off your school day right – with a few giggles.
Going to school can be pretty boring, and hard, at times – so the teachers who like this one help brighten up our days, or turn studying into something truly intersting, really deserve a medal.
History the fun way
History is one of those subjects that’s hard to get a group of hormonal and self-absorbed teenagers interested in. Why would they care about anything that happened decades ago, in a time and place seemingly irrelevant to their everyday lives? One way is to bring the history to them, quite literally.
This professor brought the computer science equivalence of a dinosaur to class – a 10 mb hard disk from the ’60s. So with one “ancient” object, he immediately caught the students’ attention.
Jedi knight professor
This professor lost his laser pointer (or at least said he did). So for the rest of the semester, he instead used this. Of course we can’t know for sure, but we have a feeling he just thought this would be more fun.
Many out there, both young and old, love the Star Wars franchise, so why not take the probably most popular part of the movie into the classroom? Any job will be more fun if you get to pretend you’re a Jedi knight while doing it!
Hands on teaching
This teacher went above and beyond to show his students what a theorem and and a proof is. We have a feeling he really didn’t need to get quite so hands on (or in..) for them to get it. But at least he can rest assured they will never, ever forget this class!
We wish more teachers would be this goofy and dedicated to their jobs. But this list sure proves there’s a lot more of them out there than we ever knew.
The main elements
If you remember having to learn the Periodic Table at school, you’ll know that it wasn’t easy. In fact, it was pretty hard to remember what all of the abbreviations meant, and which chemicals they matched up with.
So, this teacher decided to utilize their Lady Gaga knowledge and create something that their students would relate to, and something that would help them remember which ones are which. We definitely won’t go forgetting about gallium anytime soon. We’re Ga Ga over gallium.
Many teachers find it pretty infuriating when they realize that their students aren’t paying attention to them at the front of the class.
Either they’re looking down at their crotches and smiling because they’re trying – and failing – to hide the fact that they’re texting, or they’re just asleep. In order to ensure that their class paid them attention at all times, this teacher decided to adopt a giant baby head. It’s safe to say that the students were completely entranced.
The missing homework
Let’s be honest; nobody likes doing their homework. It’s this kind of work that makes students resent the time that they have to spend at school and the extra reading that they have to do at home, and there are some who just don’t do it at all. Of course, you don’t just tell your teacher that you haven’t done your homework.
You instead make up a little white lie, like the dog ate it! This obviously wasn’t fooling this teacher, so they decided to give out a few Bermuda Triangle Awards.
There’s nothing more insulting to a teacher than one of their students falling asleep in class. Sure, it’s not hard to understand why teenagers get so tired and like to have a little shut-eye when they can’t get their heads around algebra, but at least try and hide it!
This kid fell asleep in class, but instead of showcasing the fact that he was a little offended, this teacher decided to shame him into a selfie instead. Of course, he wouldn’t know until he had woken up, and this had become his social media profile picture…
You shall not pass
Although teachers get paid no matter how their students do on their tests, there’s no doubt about the fact that it’s their drive and their passion in life to teach children as much as they can.
They hope that all of their kids will pass their exams with flying colors, which is why they do everything they can to force them into their studies. Instead of letting their kids know the time on this clock, this teacher decided to remind them of a little something whenever they looked up to the wall.
If you know any teachers, you’ll know that they spend most of their time at the stationery store picking up new supplies for their classes. One of the main reasons for this is because they lend out a pen or pencil supposedly for just one lesson and then they never see it again.
This teacher got pretty fed up with the fact that they were losing their stationery left, right, and center, so they decided to buy some special pencils that her students would definitely want to give back.
Put ya name on it
Many people just assume that teachers don’t have a life or a sense of humor because they chose to be teachers. After all, teachers are boring, right? Well, it seems as though they might also be Queen Bey fans.
When this teacher realized that they were dealing with unnamed papers every time they went to grade them, they decided to create a poster that all of their students would relate to. We don’t know what Justin Timberlake is doing with Beyonce, but we have to say we do like that pairing.
The Lego teacher
Although there are teachers in this world who are more than happy to just teach off the syllabus and keep their creativity within the guidelines, there are others who like to think outside of the box. You know, like this guy.
In an effort to make their students interested in what they were teaching, they decided to have a little dress-up day at school. He became a Lego Man for the day, and we have to say the craftsmanship of this costume is excellent.
A beautiful flower
What a beautiful flower, right? Well, you’ll be happy to know that this teacher actually used their ability to be able to improvise, adapt, and overcome to transform the picture that was there before.
Many students like to draw crude pictures on their papers, but it seems as though this teacher wasn’t having any of it. They didn’t want to see that on the exam paper, so the teacher used their artistic ways to draw this stunning flower and little bumblebee instead. What a work of art.
Happy Pi Day
It’s always amazing to see a teacher really passionate about their subject, and this math teacher certainly proved that when Pi Day came around. While some teachers take delicious pie into school for their students to taste, this teacher decided to go one step further instead.
Although it must have been tough to shave his beard and mustache in such a way, the end result was absolutely perfect. For the day, at least. The day after, it just looked a little strange.
Van Gogh is an art teacher?
Art class is generally a time to chill out, relax and express your creativity. This art teacher, however, had zero chill when teaching his class about the infamous 20th Century Dutch painter, Van Gogh.
Notorious for his post-impressionist style, Van Gogh’s artistic technique is as iconic as it is revolutionary, and this teacher recreated it perfectly… on his body. Imagine walking into class and seeing Van Gogh himself teaching art! Now, that’s an art education!
Inspiration from a physics professor
This physics teacher has no patience when it comes to students displaying a lack of intelligence. This ironic poster that they have hung up recognizing the comparable aspects of passing away and foolish behavior is something only a physics professor could get away with! Professors of this field are stereotypically sarcastic, yet quite comical.
We can’t imagine how the students who aren’t doing so well in this professor’s class must feel! Perhaps their lack of intellect is causing them to assume that this isn’t directed towards them and is merely just an informative notice…
Commitment to the cat
One student in this class decided it would be a great idea to draw an image of a cat on the whiteboard every day. This particular student was so dedicated to their daily artistic expression, that when they didn’t show up to class one day, the empty whiteboard caught the attention of their teacher.
Clearly, they found issue with the lack of consistency. Taking initiative, they drew the cat on the whiteboard themselves, and the classroom was once again graced with the whiteboard cat.
An unfortunate mishap
Submitting assignments to your teacher should be done with formality, respectfully, and certainly triple checked for, least of all, spelling and grammatical errors. Well, this poor student attempted to submit an assignment without editing out the fact that they had written up their assignment template with a slightly offensive reference to their teacher when they couldn’t recall their name.
When they realized their mistake, they quickly emailed the teacher apologizing. Luckily, the professor had a sense of humor and took to Twitter to express their amusement at this comical oversight.
All tied up
Whoever said wearing a tie had to be formal and proper, clearly never met this cool professor! Clearly, this teacher likes to have as much fun with his clothes as he does with teaching.
Showing up to class wearing this quirky and amusing tie, picturing a cat wearing a tie, must have been a cause for a chuckle amongst his students. We can’t say we would complain if our teachers had shown up wearing these fun getups!
Badge of honor
It isn’t uncommon for teachers to be handing out stickers and badges for good behavior and well-earned results. Yet, this teacher seems to think that growing little wasps of facial hair is deserving of an award as well!
When this student showed up with a freshly grown ‘stache, their professor handed them a badge of honor, for managing to produce some sort of facial hair. If that isn’t an encouraging, then we don’t know what is!
The artistic history teacher
This history teacher maybe should consider switching courses and teaching an art class instead. Clearly, they have the talent! Every morning, this comical professor draws a comic up on the board, much to the amusement of their students.
Generally speaking, history is considered to be more text and hieroglyphics, and less pop art and comics. This teacher, however, definitely knows how to make their classes more enjoyable and exciting for all, by spicing up the whiteboard.
Where is Mr. Heiss?
How many times have we run into the classroom frantically, books and pens spilling out of our bags, rushed into our seats and taken a deep breath only to realize that we’re not the only ones that are late… the teacher is nowhere to be seen?!
Well, this professor has taken the initiative of drawing up a flow chart of where to find him should he be absent from the classroom. His students now have no excuse to question his whereabouts!
A live review
This professor really takes the concept of ‘Honesty is Policy’ seriously! At the end of every semester, students are required to submit an anonymous review on their professors, generally for the teachers to reflect upon their educating techniques and attempt to improve.
This teacher, however, decided to just be upfront about his flaws and presented the reviews in a slideshow in the beginning of his first class of the following semester. Now there will be no surprises if he falls short!
Meeting this teacher in his office must come with a bit of frustration, because you would never know if he’s in or out! This professor has utilized the glass window looking into his room for the most comical of purposes: he has pinned up an image of himself sitting in the office, as though preoccupied with something important.
When students walk by, at first glance it appears he is actually in his office. Imagine the shock he must give people when he opens the door… and it looks like he’s still seated!
