Bringing your pet on board means following strict guidelines, and of course, clearing it with the airline ahead of time. Reddit contributor jbOOgi3 shared a story from his grandfather, who used to work as a flight attendant.
On one of his flights, he suspected a passenger of having an unauthorized pet with him. As he got closer, he saw that the man was petting a squirrel, which most definitely did not qualify as a pet under their regulations.
