Her son looked confused about how to respond. A ten-year-old should not be put in a situation like that, especially when his mom is sitting next to him. The boy was an underage minor, and so his mom is responsible for where he is, what he does, and especially where he sits on a busy plane.
He needed to be somewhere where she could look after him, so for the man to interfere so abruptly made her furious.
