The Japanese government has taken a more pacifist approach since their defeat by the United States Army in World War II. However, the country still has a Self-Defense Force that the U.S. allowed them to create.
The government still has the capability of defending their borders in the unlikely case of an attack, however, they do not possess offensive capabilities. Before the current defensive forces in Japan, the country was defended by The Imperial Japanese Army.
