It was only in 1947 when Pakistan gained its independence from the United Kingdom, split off to be a Muslim country separate from Hindu India.
The country almost immediately started setting up its military, primarily to fight its arch-nemesis India. In fact, the two countries have gone to war several times, and both countries have nukes aimed at each others’ capitals. While the Pakistani military is the sixth largest in terms of manpower, it scores low due to not being very technologically advanced.
