Marianne Williamson has a well known quote that can very much apply to this scenario, and it can probably help you understand it better. It says that “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
It is that we are powerful beyond measure.” There is something so wonderful and true in that statement. The quote goes on to say that we sometimes make ourselves smaller to make others feel less insecure around us. This is something we do all the time.
