John quickly realized that the card was from a sixth-grader. It was 1970, and the card was addressed, “Dear Serviceman.” It was the next line that tugged at John’s emotions. The stranger had a special message to send to John and the troops.
They wanted to thank them for all their hard work as they wrote, “thanks for going over to war to fight for us.” To top it off, the six-grader even wrote about how their class hoped the soldier would soon be able to come home.
