Turns out, they were right. Handing over the pictures to the Penelope organization, who tracks down missing people, they confirmed his identity. They managed to get through to his parents, who immediately boarded a plane to Italy from Spain to try and identify their beloved son who they almost gave up searching for.
As soon as his parents were shown the picture on the passport, they knew it was him – their son. Through tears, his mother Amelia said “That’s our Carlos.”
