Not wanting to rely too heavily on public transport or other people’s motor vehicles, McCandless used this canoe to paddle down the Colorado River for part of his journey.
He soon realized that this was incredibly difficult and dangerous for him to do the whole way, so he decided to stop and continue his hiking adventure. He had grown accustomed to life on the road, and he seemed to love the fact that he was completely at one with nature with nothing holding him back – just like Carlos.
