One of the most famous people to make it over the falls was Annie Edson Taylor. The 63-year-old teacher took it upon herself to plunge over the falls in 1901. The catch? She was in nothing more than a wooden barrel.
Annie made it out the other side but immediately insisted that no one should ever try it again. People didn’t listen. In 1984, Karel Soucek survived a fall over the falls in a barrel while Jesse Sharp lost his life in 1990 after he tried to canoe over the edge of Niagara Falls.
