It wasn’t just the number of tourists that saw dollar signs flash in people’s eyes. Industrialists knew the water itself was valuable as Niagara Falls became a tumbling cash cow. All they needed to do was find a way to harness the waterfalls’ power.
Finally, things came together in 1895 as the first major hydroelectric generating station took to the region. People could now use the waterfalls to power their local mills and factories. This was just the beginning for people in the area.
