The team soon considered all options. One idea that was a popular option was to build a permanent dam around the waterfall. They hoped that this would be enough to fill up the basin at the bottom of American Falls and submerge the talus.
However, if they built a new dam, then there would be less water flowing over the edge of the waterfall. This would have significant effects on Niagara Falls and could cause a lot more damage in the long run.
